Venture Capital Fundraising Down in Q4

Wednesday, January 17, 2007 7:30:00 AM PDT | VentureDeal Staff

WASHINGTON, DC -- Venture Capital funds saw a significant decrease in fundraising in the 4th quarter versus the 3rd quarter of 2006, with 37 funds raising $2.83 billion.  The third quarter saw 66 funds raising $5.43 billion, according to a report released by Thomson Financial and the National Venture Capital Association.

NVCA President Mark Heesen didn't feel that the decrease was out of the norm.  "On the venture side, we are coming to the end of the fundraising cycle as most firms are turning their attention to investing the funds raised in the last three years."

Total funds raised by venture capital firms in 2006 was $28.6 billion, versus $28 billion in 2005.
